News about product certification for green building

14th March 2023

In line with the sustainable development orientation, Tarkett Eastern Europe and its products show additional transparency of their manufacturing processes, raw materials and full focus on the environment, therefore EPD documents are now available for parquet and LVT flooring made in Bačka Palanka.

What does EPD mean?

An EPD is an objective report based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and it is used to transmit information on potential impacts on the  environment and people’s health.

Where can you find EPDs for Tarkett products?

All information on the environmental impact of our products are available on our website in the documentation section, on the product page you are interested in. EPD documents are available for almost all our products on our website. You can find additional information on EPD documents here.

Why is an EPD important?

This document transparently communicates the environmental impact or the impact of any product or material during their life cycle. In construction industry, the EPDs support carbon emission reductions by comparing the impact of different materials and products with the aim of determining the most sustainable option. In this way, architects, engineers and designers are able to choose the most sustainable option for their project.

The use of EPDs in construction projects and manufacture is quickly and increasingly growing to match the growth in the awareness of the environmental impact of the products, and the requirements for EPDs by both public and private sectors. There are numerous benefits of creating or using the EPDs. Using the EPDs will help you differentiate your project and provide it with an extra value. Also, the EPDs are recognized by LEED and BREEAM, so they help you obtain green building certification.

BREEAM and LEED Green Building Certification Standards

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is a certified assessment reflecting the effect that the project and its stakeholders have achieved, measured in relation to the BREEAM standard and its reference values. The rating provides comparability between projects and provides a certificate of the property performance, quality and value.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widespread system of green buildings in the world. LEED, which is available for almost all types of buildings, provides a framework for healthy, efficient and cost-effective green buildings.

MHS statements about the impact of the materials on health

Along with the EPD, we work on MHS (Material Health Statement) documents, which will also be available for parquet and LVT flooring made in Bačka Palanka.
